The Slumdog Mania, Vandalism at its best.........

Hi folks. It has been a long time since i wrote a blog। Well, can say i was bit busy in other avenues. But happy to write again.... :) :) Few daysback i watched the movie SLUM DOG MILLIONAIRE. Actually i couldn't resist myself from watching, after hearing that it has got 4 Golden Globe awards. But the kind of expectation i was having from the movie, i am sorry to say it never touched that. It may be my perception about the movie, different from the acclamation it is receiving. Though i admit that the direction was mind blowing, the star cast, the art direction and most importantly Rehman's Music. It was awsome!!!!!

But the point i want to raise is that why is it that we never got a Golden Globe for a movie directed by an Indian!! Not only getting it, it was so difficult even to get a nomination.
There are lot many examples of Indian movies which went for Oscar but were returned empty handed. Swaas, Rudali, Bandit Queen, Black etc were never seen as movies which could win an Oscar. Though lot of hopes were shown by Lagaan and Elizabeth, but still they couldn't make it to the Top. What does this show!!! Aren't the Indian directors capable enough to get an Oscar or a Golden Globe! Is it that a person from Britain or US would come to India, and showcase the poverty stricken slums and win an award! Why, we have lot many films showcasing slums, poverty, backwardness, but we never ever got a chance to win an award!!To add more salt, one more documentry SMILE PINKY directed by Maegan Mygon of USA has been nominated for the Oscars. Though its theme is quiet different from SM.
What an irony!!! If an Indian director directs a movie on British background( Elizabeth ), he won't get an award, but Vice Verse gets all the praises in the world.
If you by any chance get to read the blog of Mr. Bachhan, you'll get to know why there has been so much of an outrage in British media on his comments. He has very correctly said that the movie portrays a very de motivational outlook of India. Slum and Slug have always been a part of India. But they are their in Developed nations also. So why is it that Satyajeet Ray gets lifetime achievement for his idolisation of the poor; why not the great directors like V Shantaram, Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Gurudutt and the contemporaries!!
This i guess is the vandalism created by the west to damage the image of India. India is portrayed as a land of snake charmers, poor and hedieous people who can't live without the support of west. This is what they want to see.
Even more, our great artists, who never give a damn on indian awards, run completely bonkers for acclamations given abroad. I guess this proves that we still consider ourselves as underdogs infront of the west.
India is an ocean of talent which needs no recognition from the west. But still, the Oscars being considered as Mother of all Awards of entertainment, it is most unlikely that we won't win it oneday. Our master of music, Reheman will win it for us and proove to the west that we still are the best, whether they like it or not........:):):)

Why to prove to the west by their judgment scales (Oscars). We are already doing good. Just need to get rid of chopra's, johar's and the likes. And more importantly our audience should understand that cinema has more to offer apart from romance, sex and violence. Some really good movies go unnoticed because of so-called big banner movies. And why are we still so obsessed with songs and the army-dance where thousands of underpaid dancers shake their booty behind the actors. anyways i don't want to rant about our state of movies, just wanted to make point that our audience should appreciate the good cinema.

it is correctly said that foreign award jury has always loved movies where india has been portrayed as poor, uneducated, irrational, west-obsessed, thick-brain losers (gurinder chaddha and mira nayar's films being prime examples). but it is equally true that it is we who let them do it. movies like paheli being sent as official entry for oscars is not going to help the cause either. good, genuine and original ideas are not the base of most of our movies. in name of "inspiration", we copy the western cinema just like that. those based on original ideology do not work in india itself, what do you expect from foreign award jury??? "swades", "a wednesday"(if you saw it), etc are movies which were good, but they did not smell any success in our very own country.
need is to improve our standard of movies and leave it to the world to realise what our capabilities and realities are. not to bother for awards, they will come eventually some day. even if they do not, PLEASE, do not go begging for them.
and yeah, for heaven's sake, discourage movies that are detrimental to prestige and pride of india, not only by the people in the field of cinema, but as veiwers also.
